Hi guys, how can I use manual settings during the video mode? The mode dial is of course on the M mode, but I choose my aperture and shutterspeed, but once I start the movie recording the cam does its own thing.

Weird, even though I am on the newest Firmware I can not choose any manual controls, do I have to enable them in the menu first?

Download the latest 5DII manual from Canon and go through the movie setup checklist on page 126.

That's all I can think of unless there's a hardware problem.

what sux with the 5D2 video is the auto focus, its so slow and the sound is recorded.

Weird! I went through all these steps and still I do not have any manual control. This never occurred with my old 7d. I am afraid my 5d mk II has a messed up firmware. Is there anyway to reupdate it?

I am having the same problem! I also used to have a 7D and loved the video. The 5Dii video feature seems lacking, or maybe just more complicated for us coming from the 7D where it was a simple to use feature. although I admit I'm more concerned about photos and at that, the 5Dii is far superior IMO. I have updated he firmware to 2.0.9 and having the same issue.. I must be missing something..

Is you video mode set to exposure compensation by any chance?
In this case you would only be able to set and exposure compensation and would have no control over the actual video past the initial settings pre recording.
(I just tested it on mine)

Ok I feel stupid. It's a simple setting in Screen settings you need to change it from still mode to video mode. It specifically says on the bottom of page 127 in the manual that if still mode is selected it will default to auto shooting. On the 7D there s no such setting.. Probably because of the dedicated video switch. I'm glad I found this before taking it in to canon. Some times it pays to read the directions.. Lol
